Sow Sew So
Another set of homonyms that can teach life lessons with spiritual significance is sow, sew and so.
Children from my church recently planted seeds, in a Vacation Bible School activity in order to have a greater appreciation for the important work of farmers in our nation to provide food for multitudes. This was an important lesson not only about planting and how to sow, but also about hard work and patience as well as trusting God to provide what is needed.
In order for crops to grow, a farmer must first sow a seed to give them life. When the proper soil is prepared and the seeds are planted and cared for, they will yield an abundant harvest. The skilled and conscientious farmer needs to cultivate the soil so that his labor will be fruitful.
Jesus taught a parable about the necessity to sow in good soil. He explained that the seed represents the Word of God and the soil signifies our hearts. (Read Matthew 13:3-23 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2013:3-23&version=NASB )
I have a friend who is an excellent seamstress. She has told me that she loves to sew because unlike other chores, when she takes time to sew a garment it stays together. When I think of how work stitching with needle and thread, holds cloth together, I am reminded that God Himself actually holds us together.
I saw an amazing video earlier this week of Louie Giglio describing the awesome wonders of creation. One of the things he explained is that humans have a type of protein in our bodies called laminin that serves as an adhesive to hold us together. Even more importantly, in Jesus everything is held together and He is the source of peace. Here is a link to an inspiring video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e4zgJXPpI4
We have so much for which to be thankful.

16For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him.
17He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
