Guaranteed Inheritance

 Our Inheritance is Guaranteed

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:13-14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The apostle Paul reminds the early believers, and us, that we are included in Christ. He goes on to remind us that when we believe the truth of the gospel we receive the deposit of the Holy Spirit.  Those who are God’s possession have Him - assurance that their inheritance is guaranteed.

When I signed the contract to purchase my home I was required to give earnest money. This what is two give confidence to the seller that guy was serious about buying the property and that I intended to follow through with the transaction. At the time of closing the deal there were additional compensation and legal documents signed I was given keys and entitled to take full possession. The house was mine!

God wants us to be assured that we belong to him. He gives to us the Holy Spirit as a down payment for our redemption.

Who is this for? Those who believe.  God intends it for all.

Acts 2:38-39

What (or better said)Who is the guantee? The Holy Spirit

Eph. 1:13

Where do we possess this promise? He dwells within us. 1Cor. 3:16 1Cor. 6;19-20

When or How are we assured. We believe his promises and our lives bear fruit. Galatians 5:22-23

Why was He given ? To help us  and lead us into truth.

John 14-18, 26; John 15: 26

My mother’s will guaranteed that a portion of what she had owned I would inherit. The real estate contract guaranteed that I could own my house. The Holy Spirit is a Guarantee that those who hear the message of truth and believe will receive redemption.

God doesn’t demand that we earn our inheritance by actions and skill. It is a free gift of grace. He does though want us to grow in grace and faith and then the knowledge of our Lord and Savior as we trust in his promises.

God indeed gives the “ultimate gift”.
