Christ is Our Head
Christ is Our Head
“God put everything under Christ’s power and made him head over everything for the church. The church is Christ’s body. It is filled with him. He makes everything complete in every way.”
Ephesians 1:22-23 ERV

The last section of the first chapter of Ephesians Paul speaks of the glorious power and authority of Jesus.
Therefore it is essential that we recognize that Jesus is our head.
One definition of head is to be in charge of,to lead and to have the authority to direct the activities. Jesus Christ in His majesty definitely may rule over us and we must submit to His headship
In the body the head is the top and contains the vital structures to sustain life. The sense organs are housed there as well as the body’s command center that controls not only thoughts and emotions but also regulates how the body moves and functions.
Using the acronym HEAD we can consider the reality of
Christ as our head
H Holds all things together
Christ the creator keeps the universe in order.
“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:17 NIV
https://www.bible.com/bible/111/col.1.17.niv
“He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God's] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power.
Hebrews 1:3 AMPC

The universe and creation are in perfect order because Christ holds it together. Where we see flaws and problems it’s a result of human carelessness. However, God keeps the earth rotating, the sun rising and setting and stars and planets in place by His power. The shores are borders for the oceans lest all things be swallowed up in the depths. The laws of nature such as gravity and other forces are designed and maintained by the Lord himself. Christ is the one by whom all things were created and He holds everything together.
I am comforted by the thought that not only does Christ hold together the grandeur of the universe, He is willing to care for and hold us together as well. We are mere mortals and God is willing to care for us individually.
“what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”
Psalms 8:4 NIV

He formed us and put us together.
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Psalms 139:13-14 NIV

Without Christ we would be shattered and lost.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Psalms 147:3 NIV

Christ Holds us securely
An anchor prevents a ship from being tossed about and keeps it from drifting away. In the same way Christ our hope keeps us settled and secure and holds us steadfastly.
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,”
Hebrews 6:19 NIV
